In China, an impaired President Bartlet is having trouble sitting through meetings following his MS attack, but pushes through on his plans to meet individually with the Chinese Premier about North Korea--a step that produces an extraordinary agreement for a regional conference on the North's nuclear programs but also leaves the President sicker than ever.
In Washington, a NASA functionary warns Josh that an asteroid could strike Earth, at the same time he wonders who should be the next person to occupy the Oval Office and puts off a talk with Donna about her future. He puts off the discussion for so long that Donna quits her job and leaves for parts unknown. Josh talks with Leo about finding someone who can continue to lead the country after President Bartlet's term ends, and then flies to Houston to visit with the man he thinks can fill that role: Congressman Matt Santos.
